Saturday brought the largest crowd of the season to Westleigh Park to watch the 2nd XV final between Lions and Syston.
The mini and junior section of the club were out in force kitted out to support the club as mascots, (thanks to all the parents and coaches that came along.) The 3rd XV were fixture-less this weekend and were out in force sporting pint glasses instead of kit (to such an extent, they drank the club out of Guinness!)
Kick-off was delayed due to the LRU failing to supply a referee. With this remedied Lions started the brighter of the 2 sides, a series of direct aggressive runs led to an opening try for Fly half Matt, converted by Jamal. Lions continued to press in attack and stand firm in defence, with only a penalty a piece leading to a half time score of 10-3.
Lions were left ruing missed first half opportunities as Syston replied after the break with a try and a couple of penalties. Lions pushed hard in the final 10, but failed to add to their first half score.
Well done to Syston who edged this tight game to lift the 2nd XV cup.
