Attached is the club photo for Westleigh 1959-1960, I think only two or three were missing.
Howard Deacon was former Tigers and County. Cox, Backus and Horner were all County. Bill Heffernan was an Irish GP who had played at a high level when studying in Dublin. Brookhouse was a former fighter pilot and County.
Around March 1960 the Westleigh took a charter flight trip to Dublin. The flight back was badly delayed so they were all fully hydrated by take off time which led to a bit of mayhem.
The upshot was a ban by the civil air authority and raps on knuckles from RFU. In the Daily Mirror, then a major rag, the lead columnist Cassandra did a headline article that was critical and a little unkind, "This Hooliganism Must Stop".
Michael Green, who wrote "The Art of Coarse Rugby" (wikipedia) was an Old Wyggestonian who was well acquainted with the club.
There is nothing like tradition.
